Certified Specialist in Appraising Art & Antiques
About the Appraiser
A Certified Member of International Fine Art Appraisers (IFAA) and the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), Gallery President Kurt Shaw evaluates a work of art, antique and/or object of historical importance by sourcing past and current art and antique auction records for comparable items, comparing current market prices within a dealer network, as well as by using the gallery’s own extensive art and antique library resources.
Over the past decade Mr. Shaw has appraised thousands of art and and antique objects for numerous clients both private and public, including such notable clients as Dollar Bank, The National Football League Alumni Association, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Saint Vincent College and Wesley Glen Retirement Community, to name just a few. Give him a call to see how he can help you.
Currently Shaw Galleries conducts two types of Valuation Services - the issuing of Certificates of Valuation and the writing of Certified Appraisal Reports. Both are described below...
Certificate of Valuation
Shaw Galleries provides an easy, inexpensive means of obtaining concise appraisals or estimates of an object’s current market value when you bring your item(s) into our shop.
All for a low $30 Valuation Fee!
This simple appraisal or valuation is intended to give a reasonable estimate of the replacement value of the work and also to estimate what price it might fetch at auction based on its description.
For most collectors, the price estimate and appraisal information provided with this service is all they need to know to understand the value of their painting, print or antique. The Certificate of Valuation provided can aid you greatly in determining what you can sell, consign or trade the items for. (This is a value only service. Not a USPAP Certified Appraisal Report* - see below.)
NOTE: You must call ahead to make an appointment for this service.
Can't get to downtown Pittsburgh for our on-site appraisal? Is your artwork too big to fit into your car? No problem. For only an additional $50 travel fee, Kurt Shaw can come to your home to appraise your art or antique furniture. All visits must be within the Allegheny County area; all others, please call to ask if we can travel to you. To set up an appointment today, dial 412-281-4884.
If you'd rather stay at your home than come to ours, we can still perform the same service detailed above via on-line submission. That's right, for $30 you will get the same high-quality Certificate of Valuation mailed to you that you would get in our store. More info here.
NOTE: Excludes appraisal services for purposes of insurance, distribution for divorce, etc. Please see Certified Appraisal Reports below.
