Energy by George Nama
Untitled from Energy, 1975, George Nama
George Nama (b. 1939) is an American artist, born in the Homestead region of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began his career by painting cityscapes with a grey and brown palette, reflecting the smoggy environment he grew up in. Nama later transitioned to colorful abstract works, which represent the form of a powerful emotion and charges the artwork with that energy. These abstract works were often published in portfolios, such as this linocut from the aptly-named series, Energy. He is internationally renowned and his work has been collected by museums around the world. Other works of his include collaborations with Charles Simic, Alfred Brendel, and others. Nama now lives in New York State, and remains the subject of gallery exhibitions to this day.
